The song portrays a mother who is in distress
crying for help.
“We decided to come up with something that can
provide emotional connection between us and the Mara River. We can sing all of
us and say our mother is crying, what do we do “, said Mr William Ojwang from WWF in Kenya.
Lake
Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) Executive Secretary Dr Ali-Saidi Matano officially launched the song in the Tanzanian's wildlife rich district of
Serengeti on Sunday shortly after the 8th Mara Day celebrations.
Dr. Matano said the song has been composed at the
time when the river which is shared by Tanzania and Kenya is facing serious
threats mostly related to human activities.
“Let us have this song sung in radios, television
stations, in our shops , in the rivers when our mothers are going
to fetch water and even by livestock keepers when they are grazing
their livestock and be sung by school children”, the LVBC
Executive Secretary said.
