At least 70 girls have reportedly been subjected to Female Genital Mutilation, a few days after leaving ATFGM Masanga centre where they had camped for almost a month.
Authorities in Mara region have ordered immediate arrest of the girls' parents.
Mara Regional Commissioner (RC) Sulemain Mzee issued the order to the police force in Tarime Rorya regional police zone during a meeting he conducted at the rural village of Masanga in Tarime district early today.
It is not clear why the girls have been subjected to FGM despite staying at ATFGM Masanga centre, a local NGO involved in the fight against FGM in the district.
