Tanzania will host next Mara River Day celebrations
that are held every September
15 every year with different themes helping to campaign for sustainable
conservation of the Mara River Basin.
The
celebrations will this time be held in the Tanzanian’s Wildlife rich district
of Serengeti in Mara Region for the second time.
“We have
started meeting to discuss necessary preparations for this year’s Mara River
Day and our next for further preparations will be on August 13 ”, Serengeti District
Commissioner (DC) Mr Nurdin Babu told Mara Online News today( Friday).

Mara River Day is commemorated on rotational
basis by Tanzania and Kenya with different themes campaigning for sustainable
conservation of Mara River .The event was held in Bometi in Kenya last year.
This is seen
as special day with significant contribution for sustainable conservation of
the Mara River which forms integral part of the Serengeti -Mara ecosystem.

The river starts on Mau forest on the Kenyan side
and flows through Masai Mara Game Reserves and Serengeti National Park before
discharging water into Lake Victoria in Tanzania.
Besides supporting wildlife conservation, Mara River
Basin is source of livelihood for about 1.1 million populations of people in
Tanzania and Kenya.
