Trump orders US flags lowered for 'true loss' of Dolly Parton

President Donald Trump on Wednesday ordered flags across the United States to be flown at half-mast for a week in honour of Dolly Parton, calling the country music legend's death a "true loss for millions of people".

"Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away," Trump posted on his Truth Social network. "There has never been anyone like her, and never will," he said.

Americans from all walks of life united in grief on Tuesday over the death of country music legend Dolly Parton, praising her music, philanthropy and film work.

The singer, who died aged 80, was long regarded as one of the few celebrities loved by almost everyone. True to form, she was mourned by figures across the entertainment world, as well as politicians from both sides of the aisle.
