The anti-poverty Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF) in Tarime Rural District Council has divulged reasons why 4.336m/- were returned to the organisation’s head office after the targeted recipients failed to collect the lump sum payment meant for poor households.
TASAF coordinator at the Tarime District Council, Mr Emmanuel Kadama, said today that usually uncollected funds for the targeted recipients are returned to the headquarters.
He said under TASAF regulations, it is strictly prohibited for any recipient of the funds who travels from the villages to take the said money on behalf of other recipients.
“Payment of the funds to the recipients cannot be delegated to a person other than the concerned person or any household member who possesses valid documents allowing him or her to receive the funds,” Kadama said.
Last week councilors in Tarime District Council became bitter when they were informed that 4.336m/- were returned to the TASAF head office after the recipients failed to collect the money.
Under the administration of the late President Benjamin Mkapa, in 2000 the government launched the countrywide TASAF project to empower the majority poor Tanzanians in the rural areas transform their lives.
