The central committee of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) yesterday picked 10 of its members to contest for the vacant seat of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) following the death of Dr Shogo Mlozi Sedoyeka on June 13 this year.
The contestants, choosen from a list of 47 members, will be voted in today by a committee of the CCM Members of Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania before a single name would be selrcted by all legislators of the same party on September 5.
The EALA is a regional economic grouping which brings together eight countries.
These are Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
Meanwhile, the CCM central committee has also dismissed two of its members from their leadership positions for contravening the party's leadership code.
Those kicked out of their posts are Palina Ninje, the Lindi Regional Chairperson of the women wing, and Abdul Rashid Zahoro, the Bagamoyo District CCM Chairman in Coast region.
