President Samia upbeat with prestigious tourism awards

Tanzania continues to excel in the fast-growing tourism industry with the reception of three major global travel awards.

Yesterday at Tunguu State House in Zanzibar, President Samia Suluhu Hassan received the international awards won by the country at the just-ended 2025 World Travel Awards in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The colourful ceremony was attended bx Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji.

Of the three awards, the most prestigious one was that of the "World's Leading Travel Destination" whose other contestants were Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.


The world- famous Serengeti National Park was named the "World's Leading Park 2025, overshadowing other internationally-recognised protected areas such as Kruger National Park in South Africa and Yellowstone in the United States.

Tanzania, a country endowed with rich tourist attractions in Africa, has in recent years scooped prestigious awards as tourism is rapidly becoming a lucrative industry which generates a huge chunk of the country's foreign exchange.

At the Tunguu State House ceremony, President Samia. commended institutions responsible for conservation for a job well done in safeguarding national attractions.

She called for strategic promotion of the country's tourist attractions to earn the nation the much-needed foreign currency.
