Rescue operations are still continuing at Nyandolwa area in Shinyanga region to save the lives of more than 20 miners who were trapped underground following the collapse of a pit on Monday.
Reports say the pit is owned by Wachapa Kazi Group of Mwongozo village in Shinyanga District Council.
The Fire Brigade in collaboration with some miners in the area conducting the rescue operations whereby two miners have been rescued.
Shinyanga District Commissioner Julius Mtatiro who visited the scene of accident said the victims were in three pits: numbers106 (six people), 103 (11 people) and 20 (8 people).
As rescue operations continue,Mtatiro called for patience among relatives of the victims and other artisanal miners.
