Special Seats Member of Parliament in Mara region, Esther Matiko, has inaugurated a non-profit organisation, Matiko Foundation (MF), to promote delivery of community assistance to residents of Tarime district and the country at large.

“If I’ve this institution, I’ll be in a better position to help communities in Tarime and Tanzania at large,” the legislator said on Tuesday at the foundation’s inaugural ceremony held in Tarime.

She said environmental conservation will be one of the foundation’s key priority areas as she used the inaugural ceremony to distribute 60 gas cookers to primary schools within the Tarime Town Council.

As the director of her foundation, the MP handed over a duplicating machine worth more than TSh 12 million to the union of secondary school Tarime head teachers, plus 70 cartons of sanitary pads for girl students.

She explained that the foundation will also indulge in the defence of the rights of children to realise their educational dreams, promote tourism and sports in Mara region.

Mara Regional Commissioner  Col. Evans Mtambi, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, commended Matiko for establishing the foundation, saying her idea was important for the people of Mara region.
