President Samia Suluhu Hassan has won the prestigious Presidential Global Water change makers Award 2025 for her concerted efforts in the development of the countrys water sector.
The prize is the highest honour offered by the Global Water Partnership in collaboration with the African Union.
It was handed over to the Tanzanian High Commissioner in South Africa, James Bwana, at the AU-AIP 2025 water investment meeting being held in Cape Town, South Africa, and ending tomorrow on August 15.
Botswana President Duma Boko, who is the chair of the Presidential Global Waterchangemakers Award, handed over the award to the Tanzanian envoy.
Global Water Partnership has recognised the good transformational leadership of President Samia in transforming the water sector through infrastructure development and expansion of water services in the United Republic of Tanzania, according to statement released at the Cape Town meeting.
President Samia is also credited for heavy innovative sponsorship strategies through Green Bond for the Tanga Regional Water Authority under the Ministry of Water.
Tanzania has a fast-expanding water coverage percentage in both urban and rural areas according to recent data from the Ministry of Water.
